Some mayors of major cities are throwing a NIMBY fit because a fair number of the 2 million migrants who crossed the border in 2022 want to come to those major cities, which is not a surprise.
What's laughable is that people are getting up in arms about DeSantis or Abbott providing the busses. Folks, BIDEN should be the one providing the busses. Immigration is a national issue. There are 2 million migrants crossing the border per year because we have not secured the border. If our democratic values say that we want them to come in, that we want to provide a place for them to live here, that's FINE, but then there has to be some place for them to go, and resources to help them. Every single city and community across the nation will have to be prepared to help, even if it strains their resources, if those are our values. Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California cannot be expected to bear the burden of caring for 2 million migrants per year ALONE and then another 2 million the next year, and another 2 million the year after that, continuing forever. This is a national problem which requires a national solution. They are going to have to go to cities all across the nation. 2 million in 2022. There will be 2 million in 2023, and unless something is done to secure the border, 2 million in 2024.
It's time to stop pitching a fit about bussing and either talk about securing the border (if we want the numbers to go down) or talk about how to provide these people resources in ALL 50 states (if we want to allow them in.)
Immigration is not just Texas's burden to bear. Sorry if you're from New York and this is the first you're hearing of the problem.
