(35,893 posts)64. It's the remains of an ecological disaster.
A bunch of water was diverted, wound up in a valley, and since then it's accumulated pollutants, salts, and it's slowly dried up.
Simultaneously, a lot of nice housing and vacation space appeared around it and environmentalists want the toxic dump that it is now replenished with water because migratory birds came to use it en route north or south and it's unclear that there are still sufficient sites for them to land and rest/drink/eat.
I cited it as an unlikely place to Lee to head to.
