(7,965 posts)...in a large public indoor event with people stuck next to each other it basically equates to "I can see the air that person exhaled and now it's in my face...hope they don't have Covid..." It can still be intrusive.
Exhaled vapor does not linger, is not burned or ignited, and does not smell like smoke (it may have an artificial flavoring you can smell - which might be "tobacco flavor" but it could also be mint or fruit flavors) so it may be permitted in some indoor locations. Sometimes bars will permit it if it's not crowded and you get an okay from the bartender, and I have friends who will allow vaping in their house as long as they know you. If you can smell secondhand vapor it is not smoke, but still contains any germs or viruses exhaled by the user.
I vape and I would never do it indoors around people who aren't okay with it. In a theater you can't get permission from everyone. Outdoors I still stand away from people and avoid blowing it toward them, observing etiquette as if it were smoke.
