79. "Western Values"?

Anytime someone says "western values" that sends up little warning flags. Especially because:

1. It is so vague as to mean anything and nothing...
2. For right wingers it is code for "What White people want".
3. Fascism is a "western" idea as are Socialism and Communism. They were all brought into the political discussion by Germans, French, Italians, and other western societies.
4. It just seems like a way to say "Us" versus "Them"

I am glad that we have a responsible, intelligent, and compassionate person like President Biden as the head representative of the United States. He doesn't want to see anyone suffering and is trying to promote the welfare of all of the people who are "caught in the middle" of the conflicts mentioned. With respect to Russia and Ukraine, he is definitely on the side of self determination for Ukraine and checking aggression from Russia in Putin's bid to restore the "Russian Empire" for his own aggrandizement.

The fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans is in their Constituency. For Democrats the constituency is ALL of the American People, regardless of whether they are Democrats or Republicans. Democrats want to use the power of government to make the lives of as many Americans better. Republicans serve the wealthy, Christian Nationalists, and primarily White people. They want to impose a specific idea of society onto everyone, which inevitably would lead to authoritarianism.
