(11,767 posts)No. I didn't miss that part.
I think that "at times" is not clear or strong enough. Look, I actually read and like many of your posts. I simply have a disagreement about the whole idea of "Western Values" and how much of a role the United States plays in standing up for human rights.
Like I said, I think that President Biden has been the exact right choice to help us bounce back after that disgusting piece of shit, Trump. I will certainly support Biden and think that history will be good to him despite the difficulties that are happening during his administration. I think that the Democratic Party is moving in the correct direction, with people like AOC, Maxwell Frost, etc... guided by younger but experienced people like Hakeem Jeffries and veterans like Nancy Pelosi, I think that if we can get more Democrats into office, we will really start to live up to our ideals. I suppose I get a weird vibe from things I sense as American Exceptionalism. It may be entirely me, but like I said, "Western Values" doesn't really mean anything when you see historically, where it came from. Greece and Rome where yes the ideas of democracy were presented, but where kings and empire also flourished, to England and France, again where absolute monarchy was the norm for hundreds of years, and empires spanning the globe took root, to Us pushing Capitalism and consumerism across the globe, certainly doing good things and advancing technology, but very much doing things to keep our wealthy, wealthy at the expense of our own people and people around the world.
We talk about the "crisis on the border" without even acknowledging that we facilitate that with or economic and political policies abroad. Our insane "War on Drugs" creates the incentives that make Cartels and the illicit drug trade so lucrative that Narco gangs rival the power of governments, that we have also kept relatively weak by destabilizing countries when they choose political and economic systems (Socialism) that we don't like.
