On This Day 72 Years Ago My Grandpa Cut Off The Banty Rooster';s Head [View all]

On this day is a thing for many here, I get it, but for those who skip over it I think a little bit of humor is in order.

I was 4 years old and decided to go after the mean banty rooster with a yard stick. Off I go and when I get close to the rooster he starts chasing me and I start running, and yeah, fall down, and he pecks me. So I was still a tattler back then, I tell grandma all about it. She says tell grandpa, which I do. He says then we will cut off his head, do you want to hold the feet or the head? Since the rooster just clawed me with his feet I chose the head. Holding near the head grandpa cuts it off and the rooster flies quite a way without his head. Grandpa then puts his fingers in the roosters head and makes the mouth open and close which scared the bejeesus out of me.

I then had to help grandma pluck the rooster which was another awful sight. When we were done the water was pitch black. (roosters/chickens are dirty birds)

After that adventure 72 years ago I would not eat chicken for 20 years, and that's the way it happened 72 years ago.😊
