Israel Never Sent Ambulances to Save Premature Babies in Gaza Hospital: Report [View all]
New reporting by the Washington Post appears to confirm that several premature babies were left to die in a Gaza hospital after Israeli forces ordered the building evacuated, and promised ambulances never arrived.
The new report comes in the wake of a horrifying video that appears to show the babies’ decaying corpses, swaddled in soiled diapers and partially eaten by stray dogs. The Post confirmed the authenticity of that footage by speaking with medical staff from the hospital and compared the footage with photographs of the same ward at the al-Nasr hospital in Gaza City.
Two doctors at al-Nasr told the Post that they had asked the Israeli Defense Forces and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to evacuate the premature babies, all of whom were connected to respirators and other monitors and could not be easily moved.
A tape of the conversation, obtained by the Post, reveals a senior official of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, an arm of Israel’s defense ministry, telling a doctor who requested the ambulances: “No problem,” and said he would “arrange coordination” for the transfer, the Post reported.
