(56,113 posts)...was, yes, Islamophobia increased by almost 400%, but anti-Semitism also increased. And while there was a massive increase of hate against Muslims, it fell immensely after a year, but anti-Semitism did not, and even in the throes of the horrible increase against Muslims, it never surpassed the anti-Semitism against Jews!
The difference now? Now, self-professed progressives and others on the left don't show the abject horror to the increase of anti-Semitism, either joking about it and acts of "martyrdom" (oh, look at me, I am stating I hate Hamas over and over because I have been falsely accused of loving them, which is almost always a false claim in its own right), claims of playing the "anti-Semitism card", or the constant whining about how they are the "real" victims because all they are trying to do is protest Israel.
If one were to scrawl "Terrorists! Hamas is evil! Israel will never surrender!" on a Mosque, or protest outside a Muslim/Arab/Palestinian owned business with chants of "Hey, Hey Muslim/Arab/Palestinian, How many women did you rape today?" it would be seen as a hate crime; targeting Muslims who have NOTHING to do with the current conflict other than sharing a religion with one side. I doubt a SINGLE person would claim it was NOT Islamophobic, but make it about Jews, and suddenly the messages are "aspirational", probably the work of a Jew (yes, that has been written HERE), nothing more than protesting the horrible situation in Gaza. This is known as a double standard, and when it comes to Jews, it is employed quite a lot!
