last update in January 2022, several groups have shown increased interest in purchasing firearms. The largest groups include:

First-Time Gun Buyers: Many individuals who had never owned firearms before began purchasing them amid concerns about personal safety, civil unrest, or uncertainties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Women: There has been a notable increase in firearms ownership among women. Many are seeking self-defense options and are participating more actively in shooting sports.

Minorities: Some minority groups, including African Americans and Asian Americans, have shown increased interest in gun ownership, partly due to concerns about rising hate crimes and a desire for self-protection.

Urban Residents: Residents from urban areas, where gun ownership traditionally wasn't as prevalent, have been showing increased interest in firearms for personal safety reasons.

Younger Demographics: Younger individuals, including millennials and Gen Z, have shown growing interest in firearms, partly due to concerns about personal safety and a desire for self-reliance.
