(31,729 posts)a "better" response.. so far... crickets.
Cease fire... is all that I hear from one side... with nothing about what comes next ( since then Hamas will NOT stop attacks on Israel, and neither the PLO or Hamas will even discuss a two state solution... and to be fair, neither will the current Israeli government ).
To have a cease fire, you need two parties willing to "cease firing at each other".
Sending in 200,000 troops into Gaza to comb through the tunnels to find the 30,000 Hamas members and arrest them? If I was the head of the IDF I would resign if I got that order. Instead of 200 or so IDF casualties, there would be 10,000. And even then that might not be enough to find all of Hamas and eliminate it, nor is it clear how many civilians would die in that assault.
carpet bomb Gaza and kill anyone left alive - that would be a true war crime. However if we keep telling Israel that they are guilty of war crimes, someone there (bibi?) might think "ah what the hell, we are being accused of it anyway, might as well do it"
There isn't any good answer... and I'm sure a lot smarter people than me about warfare have thought about it.
