(37,635 posts)Remember, there was no "Beau Biden"--his (first) given name was "Joseph", and his middle name was, as the case with his father "Joseph", "Robinette" (he had a "III" as a result after his name, 3 generations of "Joseph Robinette Biden"
. "Beau" is pure nickname.
I guess we have to exclaim, "Oh, noes! Utterly falsified and fabricated! Oh, the lies! The cover up! The fraud!" But, no, nicknames are fine in American society. Have been for many a century.
And "Hunter Biden" has the (first) given name "Robert". "Hunter" is his middle name.
Oooh ... The falsity. I guess he wanted to make himself seem like an aggressor, a "hunter". "Nikki" is less "anglicizing" her name by using her middle given legal name than "Beau" was trying to seem more Cajun by gallicizing his name or than Hunter wants to seem like a gun-toting NRAer by presenting himself as a "hunter".
But, no, that kind of thing has also been going on for many a century.
Having a principle that people get to use their given names or a hypocoristic should be applied equally. You're a person, each of the Bidens is a person, my dad was a person (he used his middle name when young), "Nikki" is a person, I'm a person. Condemn "Nikki" and you condemn "Joe," "Beau," and "Hunter" and by extension my dad.
