In reply to the discussion: "The vice president of the Confederacy, Alexander Stephens of Georgia, was quite clear about the cause of the Civil War" [View all]Disaffected
(6,058 posts)32. The idiocity of that "Great Truth" is
that it is irrational and, as well, horribly injust. It stems from the failure to realize that people are first and foremost individuals, no matter what their skin colour, ethnicity, religious beliefs etc. and, if they are to be judged, should be judged as such. The associated belief that the "best" black is inferior to the "worst" white is equally nonsensical.
Simple logic such as that for some reason does not prevail in the thinking of bigots - it seems that part of their psyche is missing.

The idea of subjugation of a people is so cruel and worthy of contempt. The Republicans do not condemn it.

It's not ignorance; they know the South's history and still yearn for those "glorious" antebellum times.

Just goes on and on. Neil Young called it out 50 years ago. Keeps on chugging. They hate "woke" which is basic truth

It's always about the money and who gets it. Slaves were a huge money maker.

I admire that that you were aware. I thought History was history; facts were facts. No idea it was manipulated

I admire your quest for a truthful narrative and would dispute the lazy assertion!
