In reply to the discussion: Gaza crisis: Over 10,000 children killed amidst escalating violence [View all]gulliver
(13,713 posts)Perhaps if Gazans all took to the streets in a peace march of protest of their military leaders, their elected leaders would listen. Hamas and the others might call off the war they started.
If their leaders have democratic support among the Gazans, it's a completely different story, obviously. If I supported, say, Trump, and Trump attacked Mars, it would be my fault if Mars fought back and members of my family were killed. Not Mars. You deserve, in other words, retaliation for acts you commit by proxy through your leaders. If Mars is merciful and careful not to harm members of my family whom I jeopardized with my (in this example) Trump support, then good on Mars. Bad on me if I keep supporting Trump's aggression.
It's obvious. We need to remember who is at fault in determining justice.
We also need to remember the future. The life of an innocent of the future is worth exactly as much as the life of an innocent of the present. The misguided impulse to save one innocent in the present at a cost of ten in the future is blind and, would seem to be very immoral to me. Leaving Gaza's military wing (Hamas, etc.) intact would be an unconscionably cruel act.
