(12,309 posts)Doesn't mean we can afford to be complacent or take our foot off the gas because too many enablers and donors are invested in a Trump win, not bc of Trump, the candidate, but the prospect of getting their hands on power once again, and then throttling the country, molding it into what they want.
But Trump himself is a known quantity. He's exposed himself, again and again, as a mentally deficient crook, depraved and amoral. That seemingly plays with the True Believers, those who still think he's the Strongman they want and need, but for the American majority, he's a horror show, a walking nightmare posing as a man.
2024 is our election to lose and we need to put everything into it. The only way MAGA retreats is by a massive blow at the ballot box. The economy is roaring back and consumer confidence is up. Inflation (despite what the MAGA talking heads spout) has been reduced and continues to fall. The stock market is at historical highs.
Yes, the border is an issue and the Gaza conflict needs resolution. Third-party runs present a challenge.
Still, Joe Biden and our Democratic Coalition are in a strong position. Biden's economic policies are coming online and making a difference. The Dobbs' decision is still a huge factor, a flashpoint of outrage for women, young and old. We've won the vast majority of special elections; elections in Virginia were a triumph. And Joe Biden has been a good President countering much of the obstructionism the GOP has sent his way.
As Simon Rosenberg has said repeatedly: I'd rather be us than them.
