In reply to the discussion: Why do some people feel they need to declare they are not watching the Superbowl? [View all]LisaM
(29,637 posts)151. It depends on where they say it.
If I post on Facebook about the game and someone goes on my wall and says she or he won't be watching, then it comes off as self-righteous. If someone asked you directly which team you wanted and you politely say you aren't interested,. that's different.
The worst are the people who disdainfully say they don't watch "sportsball". No longer funny or original and clearly designed to mock someone else's interest (they say it for baseball and basketball and soccer, too, believe me, I have heard it all).

OP
I cut the cord so it can be challenging to watch games but today I think Paramount is streaming it.

I usually avoid commenting on something just to let the world know my negative take on it

Perfect response, Mr. Underpants. This is what the OP was hoping for. I try to do the same.

Same reason people announce they're not fans of Taylor Swift or other entertainers; are unsubscribing

Well, I don't have TV because cable is too expensive and antenna is a hassle.

I like football. I understand your rant. I'm going to bed . My sleep is more important to me than any game.

I have a general disdain for all nearly all sports, but I haven't announced that I'm not watching...

Remember that when facebook started, people would post that they were doing their laundry

I don't know. I know that I won't be watching it... and I don't know why I just said that.

Let me get this straight. You are declaring that you are watching because you like football

It does seem odd to make an announcement about something you *aren't* doing.

Why do some people feel the need to declare they'd not going to read the New York Times?

I'm only a sanctimonious blowhard not about watching the Super Bowl commercials.
