(11,867 posts)in Ireland. I'm 3rd generation, but of course my father's birth wasn't registered (as he was eligible to be) when I was born (my grandparents' births were registered). However, Ireland does allow some 3rd gens to gain citizenship, but not all (my sister can based on when she was born, but I fall outside this random window). My dad is submitting his ancestry citizenship application in May and then I'll see what happens. I'll be working with a couple of folks to file a petition to allow all 3rd generation people of Irish descent to apply for ancestry citizenship. It may go nowhere, but I'll never know unless I try. I'm fortunate that I work in the legal profession and have a law and history background, so the research involved is no problem. It's getting someone to listen to the case that's the issue.
If all else fails, I can apply via my mum's side in Italy. But thanks to Brexit that does me no good in England.
