(9,058 posts)years ago. Basically after an official judgement is entered a new part of the legal process begins where you serve the defendant official legal demand for payment. We called it "perfecting judgement" but NY might call it something else. So you get the document and demand payment. They have that 30 day window. If they have not either paid or put up the money for an appeal when the 30 days runs out you then go back to the court and the court will demand financials and an appearance. If they don't comply then the typical move is to issue an order to show cause for civil contempt and schedule a hearing on that order. If they still do not comply then the judge can issue an arrest warrant and could also order immediate seizure of known assets. After seizure there would of course be all kinds of hearing with parties holding mortgages etc. But long story short is you take the form from the court and serve it on the defendant demanding judgement. If they fail to comply within the allowed time then you go back to the court to start the seizure process.
NY may be different and big cases may be different than small ones.
