In reply to the discussion: I will be running for a Kings County Democratic Committee seat this year... [View all]LeftInTX
(32,761 posts)Only the party chair is required to have a petition here. We simply file and we're on the primary ballot. I got 80% of the vote when I first ran. All I did was make a few calls and handed out a few cards at the polls etc. The incumbent was totally awol to voters.
The position is what you make of it. Some people just join to hang out and stir up stuff at the County Executive Committee meetings. Others are very committed. I'm always trying to turn my precinct blue. I'm also in a bunch of committees etc.
Sounds like you have 4,000 precincts? Wow, Bexar County has 761, and about 25% are known as zero precincts. (Interstate access roads, vacant city lots etc) I have over 3,000 registered voters in my precinct. However, the difference between our area and NYC is homes are much more spread out, so my legs hurt alot during campaign seasons. But it's fun!
You'll do great!
