(24,186 posts)Human beings in our physical form are not meant for space travel. I think we're closer to being able to download a human consciousness into a computer than we are to building a space ship that will allow humans in their current physical form to travel vast distances in outer space. But we are probably hundreds of years from that.
With that in mind, alien life that is traveling the cosmos is unlikely to be organic IMO. Maybe it started as organic life, but technology allowed it to become something else.
And I also think that beings that we create will be the first seep space travelers. An AI that doesn't need a physical body to interact with the physical world around it will be the first substitutes for humanity exploring distant worlds. And perhaps those beings will not just outlive humanity, but will in very real ways be the continuation of humanity.
