(3,827 posts)The dems MAY re-capture the House, but keeping the Senate will be a very heavy lift. While winds may be in our sails nationally, the electoral map has too many blue seats to defend while red seats are deeply entrenched and mostly safe.
Unless young voters start believing the existential threat of a christo-fascist takeover, November will be sad indeed. I have not met anyone under 40 who likes either candidate. Whether they hold their nose and vote Biden (or vote at all) can not be counted on to deliver 270 electoral votes.
I am terrified that emboldened Republican state legislatures will block certification in states that Biden wins under the pretense of fraud (again). The fake challenges are now baked into the process.
In short...the dream of a semi-permanent majority and the demise of the radical conservatives is way too optimistic. Those voters will be there to follow the next dog-whistling autocrat.
Commentators said the same thing in 2008 with the Obama victory.
