I get not allowing it on government devices, plenty of software not allowed on most company owned devices. But an out right ban in the US? May as well be a limited embargo. And as far as security goes, didn't Russia hack a US company recently capturing a meeting between German officers?
Flip side, I get the hysteria, sadly. Ran into an old colleague recently. We used to work at the same company until they eliminated his department (then brought it back with younger people with less benefits), since he was a reservist, he used his contacts to get a job at the DoD. Always told me if I needed a job, let him know.
I eventually left the company for a non profit and happy. Ran into him again, and I mentioned a relative just got their degree in engineering. He asked for the name and gave me the website for one company that works with the DoD, said they are always hiring. I pointed out we have a Russian background. His response, "Oh we don't care about the Russians, they know as much as we do. It's the Chinese we worry about, they are not up to par with either one of us yet, but damn well trying to get there".
