The world bore the horror of Trump's utter incompetence when he was President.
Trump's supporters became stochastic terrorists, and of course we saw this most plainly January 6.
Then the Carroll judgement, and the $90 million.
Then the $400 million bond he now cannot come up with.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Now we have the dictator-for-a-day thing, the Putin can 'do anything he wants' thing, and the 'it will be a bloodbath' if he loses thing.
So now, just in time for the campaign, we see that Trump has installed Lara Trump as the chair of RNC, and she got rid of all their talent that had real institutional knowledge, and will funnel all the money to Trump's legal fees. The Republican grassroots organization has been imploding across many states.
This will starve down ticket Republican candidates. Add to this Trump's boast that he was instrumental in ending Roe v Wade, and we see two huge millstones around the collective GOP neck - lack of campaign funds, and abortion access.
In the meantime, we have ABC, conservative leaning ABC, pounding on the bloodbath deal. Biden running ads using Trump's own words against him. Much better messaging.
We also have increasing evidence that Trump may well be experiencing what is called 'fluid aphasia.' I suspect Trump will have some kind of breakdown that forces the GOP to elevate some other candidate, and they have very little real bench strength at this point.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
People are waking up, Mineral Man. Right leaning independents who have in the past thoughtlessly voted Republican are rethinking their position. They are waking up.
Establishment Republicans like Ken Buck (my Rep by the way) have been fleeing the shit show the GOP Congress has become. Liz Chaney has come out against Trump. Pence has publicly said he does not endorse Trump. They are waking up.
Women have awakened. LGBTQ people have awakened. Aside from a few vocal critics from the student-left and Dearborn, MI criticizing Biden's stance on the Israel-Hamas war (unjustly, to my mind, because Biden/Harris/Blinken are in fact pressuring Netanyahu, which is causing him to be further isolated, and increasingly likely to be thrown out of power).
And we have Biden actually walking a picket line. And did you see John Oliver's student debt episode? He sure gives Biden credit for forgiveness of billions in student debt.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) has infused billions into states, and Biden is calling out GOP members of Congress who voted against it - BIL is bringing $6 billion into my state alone, in much needed funding to address infrastructure needs.
Bottom line, we do still need to get out the vote and do that work, but we as a party in are in better, stronger position than we have been in a long, long time.
I am optimistic, becuase I think Dems will sweep in 2024. Yes, GOTV is still hugely important, and everyone on here needs to do that, but...I'm optimistic.
