In reply to the discussion: Hienz takes on: NO CATSUP ON HOT DOGS!!!! [View all]bluesbassman
(20,382 posts)78. I worked in a tomato cannery while in college.
Tomatoes come from the fields in boats on top of flatbed trailers. Theyre washed out into a sluice that floats them to a conveyor belt that goes into the cannery. They make their way around the cannery and are processed into various types, whole, diced, stewed, etc. The very last stop is catsup. Whatever is left on the belt after all the other products are canned is what they process into catsup. Its not very pretty.

Chicago deep dish is not at all good IMHO. Most overrated pizza style on the planet.

I'd try it. Heck, I eat mustard sandwiches, so I'll try almost anything once.

They need to make stealth ketchup that you can smuggle on your hot dogs

I don't care how they do it in Chicago. I like catsup on my dog with brown mustard and lots of onions.

Hot dogs should be rescued and fostered in air conditioned homes, not splattered with condiments.

Pretty sure the international image of the American hot dog has to have ketchup.

I haven't visited Chicago in over 25 years so I didn't know that this was a thing.

Well, I read it was the Vienna Beef that banned ketchup anyway. So, does Vienna beef control me?

I'm from Cleveland where the only thing foodie PC folks put on "dogs" is still brownish, spicy Stadium Mustard!

Actually, I prefer barbecue sauce myself, on both hot dogs and hamburgers...
