In life they hardened their hearts and turned from both Jesus and God on Earth because they did not read his Word that's literally there for them, (1. Thou shalt love God with they whole heart, thy whole soul, thy whole MIND, and thy whole strength. 2. Thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself.) They were called. They turned away, insisted on their own human understanding, instead of God's. In life they are now doing exactly what the Pharisees did, who thought that power is what God is.
