(36,421 posts)I think the main thing emboldening them right now is that there's a huge vacuum when it comes to after the war. The Israeli govt hasn't shown that they've got any plans at all because all they're concentrating on is attacking every inch of Gaza, and while there's that void there, the ugly religious extremists and the likes of Jared Kushner will come along and fill it, even though the majority of Israelis are opposed to them, because when it comes to them and Hamas, they're both different sides of the same coin.
I think the extremists see Biden, and Obama before him as being weak, and easy pushovers. Apart from that, I think they'd act the way they act regardless of what the US said or did.
I'd be hoping that if Nutty continues to go the path of attacking Rafah, regardless of the cost in Palestinian lives, that next time Palestinian statehood comes up for a vote in the Security Council, the US will do the right thing and either abstain, or even better, support it.
