54. It's more common than we think

For men to use pregnancy, childbirth and children as tools to trap women in economically destructive relationships. The 40 year old who cons the 20 something girl to be a stay at home wife then pop out a couple
of babies, has effectively tied her to him or doomed her to a life of poverty. And it doesn't just have to be creepy old men. And frequently the added burden of financial support for the family is added to the woman's workload.

In this abusive situation, the guy gets free sex, free housecleaning, free meals and free child raising, while the woman gets a lifetime of servitude. Not the marriage I would ever want but it's something some idiot men think is their right.

Fewer and fewer women are willing to put up with this arrangement anymore, thank gods.

It stems from the slavery of women and the development of agriculture. More and more scholars are discovering that women were the original slaves.

Not only could they be easily abused because of their smaller size and more submissive temperament but their need to attend to their children made them especially vulnerable.

In enslaving women men got a 2 for. Not only did they get free labor, they got a sex partner and baby machine.

There were ancient societies where there was no word for male slave. The word slave meant women because female slavery was so fundamental to the society.

And out of this, the Bible was written. A misogynistic, imaginary god was created, who kept women as slaves.
