6. You know what makes me mad?

Why are contraceptives so damn expensive? They've been around forever. I was laid off from my job. Barely making ends meet and needed contraception. I was floored that my insurance didn't cover it and shocked that is was over $50 a month. This was back in 2001. I could not afford it. Got pregnant, learned that my insurance didn't cover pregnancy. I sued for contraception coverage and ended up losing at the appeal level. It was an experience that changed me forever. I now wonder, why are women paying so much money for this medication and why such barriers? And in case you are wondering, my son is 22 and works for that same damn company. I looked at their benefit package and they cover pregnancy now. They decided to also voluntarily cover contraception, though I don't know if that ever stuck. They just wanted to humiliate us women and show their force. They finally realized how an ounce of prevention is cheaper in the long run.
