(20,390 posts)I have nothing against people of faith using their scriptures to guide their lives. More power to em as the saying goes. Thats exactly where it stops though. As much as I respect and defend your right to have an opinion or belief based on unscientifically verifiable writings in books that have been transcribed and interpreted dozens and dozens of times after being first recorded from word of mouth recollections, the plain fact is such a state of affairs is no way to enact policy for the governance of a great group of people that includes those who choose to follow faith teachings and those who do not.
Used to be that the people of faith largely stayed in their lane. Im not implying that all people of faith are bigots, homophobes, racists, misogynists, fascists, and anti-democratic, but what has become more prevalent is this attitude on the right that their side is the final arbiter of right and wrong, good and bad, just and unjust. You know who else thinks like that? Evangelical Christians. It's hardwired in the sermons they hear and what theyre taught. Their God is the Allmighty and they are doing His work, so how could THEY possibly be wrong about anything.
No, you cant agree to disagree with such people, because they wont even agree with you on anything in the first place
