109. No generation ever faced the kind of extistential threat we face today

The Greatest Generation faced and defeated US Nazi sympathizers in 1940 (the America First Committee). Then, they went to Europe and killed it at the source. But that pales in comparison to the attempted coup by the far right on Jan 6, because the coup plotters are not only not defeated, but actively trying to repeat it, with broad support from the US populace.

And beyond the threat of fascism within US borders, there's the global threat of climate change. It will literally displace or kill billions by the end of this century, and turn entire swaths of the planet into inhospitable wastelands, which some of these 20-yr olds may live to see. Beyond that, it is kickstarting a mass extinction event that we haven't seen in 65 million years.

None of the liberal-vs-conservative politcal matchups of the 20th century hold a candle to what we're seeing today. And I don't feel any of this is an exaggeration.

A lot more is riding on the shoulders of today's generation than at any other time in history. This truly feels like a make or break point in human history.
