(1,438 posts)So do all other "traditional" corporate news platforms. If they feel they can expand the number of eyeballs from the target demographic(s) by broadcasting christofascist GOP propaganda, and it tests well in focus groups, they bloody well will. Christofascist GOP news platforms exist to spread christofascist GOP propaganda. And sell advertising space to businesses, often the same businesses that advertise on "traditional" corporate media. We need to stop pretending that they are there to "serve" us; they're there to "sell" us. Always have been. We need to stop pretending that a bias-free media can, or has ever existed. There's no such thing as objectivity.
If you're longing for Walter Cronkite, or even CNN Headline News, reporting of that sort has lost its place on cable and on the internet. Even the little four-minute blurb of news reports that used to happen at the beginning of an MSNBC hour have vanished. What you get now is wall-to-wall editorial comments. And yes, it sucks.
If you don't like what you see, exercise your right to use the "off" switch for as long as you can, until SCOTUS takes It away from you.
