(5,410 posts)but let's not start anticipating another Trump term just yet.
While the debate was not good for President Biden, lying at least once on every question response was not good for Trump either. He gained no converts last night. Flash polling after the debate said that BOTH candidates lost 3 percent of their supporters-- a wash.... and a new poll out today, taken post-debate, showed President Biden 2 percentage points behind Trump-- within the margin of error, and within the range of the polls which we've been seeing for the past few weeks-- some which showed Trump ahead, and some which showed President Biden leading, and some tied. In other words, there is no evidence of any big shift away from President Biden.
Compared with most first debates in a general election, viewership was way down for this one, likely because of the early date.
As far as 'the orange idiot will be our next president', that is unilateral surrender in which you should not engage. There's a thing called 'the campaign' which is still underway for 4 plus months, there's the conventions and President Biden's acceptance speech, and I am confident he will give a good 'performance' there... and there may be another debate in the fall. There is plenty of time for last night to be forgotten.
Have you seen President Biden's rally speech in North Carolina today? Joe was ON FIRE, strong and full of piss and vinegar.
If you haven't seen it, you should watch it-- it'll make you feel better. It sure did the trick for me:

Joe starts at about 35:40
It's not very long, but makes up in passion what it lacks in length--
and won't take too long to watch it.
LET'S GO JOE! FOUR MORE YEARS!
