People forget the Republican Establishment wasn't really with him at all back in the day. They hardly attended his first convention in 2016. Many jumped off the bandwagon after the "grab'em" tape. Even after he was first elected they didn't bend the knee for him so much. But as the weeks became months and they saw how Trump's voters didn't abandon him, and if anything supported him to the death, they became a craven group. Plus they got the judges, which they always wanted. The GOP also saw anyone who was an apostate was crushed (think about your Jeff Flake's etc.).

The Establishment had their last chance in the aftermath of January 6th, when some slowly tried to cling to a degree of sanity. However, once again they saw their voters largely were with Trump, so they backed away, hoping he'd fade. He didn't. So as '21 became '22..and '22 became '23 -- again they began the slow migration back to Trump.
