With all of Trump's over-the-top rhetoric, I think it was inevitable that he would eventually be a target for some unhinged lone wolf shooter.

Such crazed shooters are so much a part of American life in the 21st century, it would be more surprising if no one made such an attempt during campaign season. And we have no idea how many attempts have been thwarted by the FBI and/or the Secret Service.
