2. If your shoes have thick lifts, your feet don't fit all the way down inside them,

so they'll come off much more easily. Without lifts, your feet will contact the insoles and the laces will hold the shoes on. With them, there's really nothing to keep the shoes on because the laces will tie down only the front of the foot. The heel will slide right out. This might also explain why he can't walk normally on ramps, and why he tilts forward when he stands (his huge ass providing a counterweight so he doesn't fall on his face).
