(170,232 posts)about the "super delegates" and after that, the DNC made some major changes to "reduce their power".
The super delegates ARE all of those federal elected officials (and I think include those like (D) governors, mayors, and state party leaders, etc.).
And upon typing the above - I just realized that the "change" MIGHT be why you see these elected officials jumping up and down "publicly". It's perhaps what they would have done during any balloting at a convention.
In the past, they wielded a lot of "power" within the Delegate process, able to sway the nomination to one candidate or another.
Now they have been all but mooted unless you have multiple strong candidates (like when there is no incumbent), which could force a 2nd ballot, thus allowing them to finally weigh in.
