(15,329 posts)like all of you, I have been very worried about Trump winning. I don't think the downtickets would have lost, but Biden probably would have.
At this point, though I did use the word perfidy, I am ready to forget that and forge ahead. Because now that the whole story has come out, the writing was on the wall with internal polls showing Biden's path to victory had disappeared.
It amazes me how big a man Biden was to do this painful thing. He will go down as a truly great president because he had the character to step down for the sake of all of us instead of his own ego. That selfless act sets an example for all of us. You know, now that I'm thinking about it, Biden's selfless patriotism and genuine goodness, putting us and the republic above his own interest may have won the election for us right there. I don't know many people who won't admire him for it - Americans love selfless patriotism.
As to Harris, we have been glued to MSNBC all evening and this is the first time I've felt good hearing the news in weeks. Fundraising is back up (I donated to the Harris campaign earlier this evening), and she's got endorsements all over the place. See, the whole thing I was afraid of was the party eating its right foot after chopping off its left. Seriously, I had no confidence in the middle aged Dems because I thought there would be a big internacine battle but everybody (except Manchin, who has left our party anyway) got on board with Harris right away, this very afternoon and evening.
Honestly, for the first time since the debate, I am feeling very confident this republic will not fall. And that is a very, very good thing.
I'll tell you one last thing: America is READY for a woman as president!
