I don't disagree with your predictions of a post-loss Democratic Party, but I think history will be kind to President Biden either way. Obviously, a win would be an indelible stamp on his legacy and probably go down as one of the most consequential political decisions in the history of the country.

LBJ chose not to run in 1968, and we lost that election to Nixon. While he was quite definitely a flawed individual and his time in office will always be mired by the specter of Vietnam, his decision not to run and the subsequent loss has not diminished the accomplishments of the administration in the eyes of history, many of them a part of the Great Society.
