44 or so years ago I had the opportunity to meet my godfather in the Sitka Pioneer Home on a trip through SE Alaska.

He told a story about when Levi Jeans transitioned from a button up Jeans to zippers. He noted underwear weren't typically worn and there were times when men would get their foreskin trapped in the zipper and how painful it was to extract it from the zipper. He stated he began to wear underwear after a few incidents.
