That quote goes to the heart of why this was an emotional, bittersweet part of the night. It HAD to be given the background situation which Baker says well. Biden was pushed to end his career earlier than he would have planned. I imagine seeing the turnaround in the campaign, which makes most of the party think the switch to Harris was a very good thing, has both made him very hurt, even while hoping it was the best for the country.

I also agree that the planners should have cut something earlier, possibly moving them to one of the other days, to include the tribute video.

While this tries to sympathetically describe how this felt for Biden, it ignores that Baker and the NYT, his wife and many other MSM people pushed hard for months to make him leave.
