23. The father of a couple of kids I carpooled with in high school was a vet.

One day while waiting for his kids (I was in the back of the VW bus), he broke down and spilled his guts after I asked him if he was okay that day.
It was heart wrenching and he apologized over and over. He didn't know why he just spilled his guts out to a 16 year old girl.

Luckily he told me he was going into therapy and he seemed pretty glad about it. He cried, I cried. It was odd but I could see how cathartic it was for him.
This was in 1983.

My dad was enlisted but they kept him stateside. Not sure why but most of the guys he trained and became friends with, were killed in the war. It haunted him. He hated war movies.
