(1,213 posts)That it was telling how my MD mother, back when not many women were career women, never mind doctors, was in the minority of women wherever we lived who wasn't an alcoholic or hooked on prescription drugs.
The majority of housewives we knew were all wired on something, every single day. Some of them were so far gone that my mother wouldn't let us kids go into their homes, and we were under strict orders never to get into a car with any of them who were behind the wheel. Not unless we had a death wish.
You'd think if having one of the ultimate professional careers was so horrible for women, then my mother would have been the one on drugs. But she wasn't. She was happy. Anytime I asked her how she handled the stress of her job, she'd say, 'What stress? My work's not stressful. It's often challenging, but that's what makes it great!'
She's in her mid-80s now, still 5' nothing, and I'm pretty sure she can still take this wimpy chauvinist pig.
