By directly calling the person who spreads the bad information a liar themself, even if they believe the bad information, it will make it a personal hit for them when they find out the truth, and they will be more hesitant to spread info that they haven't verified first. They won't be able to use the excuse that they "saw it on the tv!" or whatever because that won't matter, THEY are no longer a trustworthy person. They will learn they are actually responsible for what they say.

If we can't always stop the sources of misinformation, at least we can try to slow the spread of it by demanding everyone take personal responsibility for what they spread.
