During WWII, Asian stereotypes that we now recognize as very offensive were all over the place in this country. In political cartoons, advertising, you name it.

Some of it hung on for quite a while, too. I can't stand to watch Breakfast at Tiffany's (which came out in 1961) because of a character played in yellow face by Mickey Rooney that wasn't even in the damned book.

Of course, Asian stereotypes are still around, unfortunately, but they aren't as hideously blatant as they once were.
