(14,998 posts)They also rotate in and out. A bout four years years ago, the Peacekeepers on the border were were Irish. There have also been Italian, Indian, Cameroonian and US troops along the Lebanese/Israeli border.
UNHCR will have personnel that are locals or those who are culturally aligned with the Refugees to give them a sense of support that isn't patronizing (White Man's Burden and all that).
But UN Peacekeepers have nothing or otherwise little to do with the conflict. In fact, if you were to look a little closer at any European or North American unit that might be assigned as a Peacekeeper, you might find quite a few Jews, Atheists, Buddhists, etc. amongst the generally Christian flavor of soldier.
You aren't going to have member of Hamas or Hezbollah embedded in a Peacekeeper unit anywhere around Israel, because you're not going to have a unit from any country where enough of those Iranian gang members would be able to enlist and make an influence.
You will always get a few Peacekeeper members who are generally terrorists in training, just as you do in any army, but they're not going to specifically be an Iranian backed enemy of Israel.
Attacking Peacekeepers has no defensive or protective benefit to the attacking army. The only benefit it has is to harm people who are trying in some manner to maintain stability and expand the conflict.
