I switch back and forth from confidence to pessimism [View all]

And this is not even due to Trump’s antics or potential shenanigans yet to unfold.

The simple reason is voters in general are clueless about the candidates and issues. This is a real problem that Trump is uniquely benefiting from.

Speaking with friends and family, some who even openly said they voted for Kamala, is discouraging. They still repeat Trump lies, claim Biden is responsible for inflation and immigration, and/or think things were better during the Trump years.

When I counteract with actual facts or things Trump has said, like his tariffs or deportation plans, they can only counter with something like “well Trump doesn’t actually mean that. He’s only going to go after the bad guys.”

To which I say, “so he’s a liar then?” They usually shut up then but I don’t think I’ve convinced them. They still believe in the myth of Trump.

So I’m preparing myself for either outcome tonight even though I remain confident in a Harris victory. But I am also deeply concerned about the future if most persuadable voters are as ignorant as my small sample size.
