6. Our bigger problem is running elections on the cheap.

Long wait times are the most visible consequence that disproportionally affects people in populous areas (that in many states just happen to favor the Democratic Party).

The right to vote in a free and fair election is the cornerstone of the existence of our constitutional democratic republic. It is long passed time to demand our state budgets prioritize elections and ensure no one is subjected to what is, for all intents and purposes, a poll tax. (Time is money. And wait times equal suppressed turnout. For every 10 people waiting in a line of more than 2 hours, I have absolutely no doubt that at least one person -- and probably more -- saw the line and left. Perhaps because they had no babysitter. Perhaps because they perceived the line as 'great turnout' that made their vote unnecessary. The reason doesn't matter. It is an intolerable barrier and we've go to stop tolerating it cycle after cycle. )
