23. When the storms are blowing in the winter

out in the Dakotas the NOAA weather service radio reports have saved me many times. Tornado time too. Excellent local weather and because my radios are multi-channel I can pick up the next area I'm traveling to a good long time before I get there. They are so great about wind speed and wind gust level and mentioning pretty precise reports town by town and the forecasts. Knowing ahead of time about horrible conditions ahead gives a person time to find a place to pull over and let the weather blow through rather than running into the problem and finding yourself surrounded in a blizzard with high winds for instance.
