But why you would not understand that people react this way in the face of a horrible tragedy means, to me, you have little capacity for empathy.
Why would you act surprised by this? It's human nature. What you need to do is go back into your quiet corner while people grieve. Show some respect. If you don't have anything to say that will help people grieve, then you should shut up.
