Very few people completely overturn the politics of their parents, especially high profile politicians. The fact that we are finding decency in even her father on this issue shows how far the Republican Party has strayed. Liz's upbringing should have created a different result than it did, and we have to give her credit for her independence and her courage.
When I see former Republicans speaking out against MAGA, Trump, and J6, I often want to punch them. Where were you, I want to ask, when the groundwork for all this was being laid? Even Nicole Wallace was writing speeches for George W. Were there not enough clues then? Was she not smart enough?
But we need to be grateful that for many of them (not enough of them) there is a line. And if they can search their souls, leave their tribe behind, and refuse to cross that line, we need to welcome them. We don't win by making Democracy an exclusive club.
