...was when the Garland nomination was being held up. The Democrats should have countered by saying they would withhold unanimous consent, which would grind the Senate to a halt, until Garland got a hearing. This isn't quite the "nuclear option" that blowing up the filibuster would be, but it's the strongest leverage the conference had. Even if you're afraid of getting hurt, you sometimes have to fight. It might turn out better than you feared.

Totally agree. With the bad people in the majority, some tools are limited but by all means delay, delay, delay.
